Medical Adventures in Ecuador
The Ecuadent Foundation provides medical and dental services free of charge to impoverished regions of Ecuador. As Ecuadent's medical director, Dr. Kung oversaw two surgeons and five nurse anesthetists during his latest sojourn from February 18 to 27.
"We saw 98 patients and operated on about 40," he said. "A quarter of our patients had craniofacial cleft lip and cleft palate deformities. We also treated multiple congenital hand and foot deformities, including fused digits, and performed burn contracture releases."
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Kung followed up on patients on whom he had operated in years past.
"There were excellent outcomes from patients we first treated over 10 years ago," he said.
One nurse described the trip as "a very rewarding experience." She noted that it reinvigorated her vision of healthcare.
Towards the end of the trip, Dr. Kung was asked to return later this year for an educational seminar on aesthetic medicine for physicians and surgeons in Ecuador. Stay tuned for more information!

Free Liposuction for Qualified Patients

Technologies LLC announces that Dr. David S. Kung of Kung Plastic
Surgery, P.A. is now recruiting patients for a multicenter, controlled clinical trial of HydraSolve® vs. suction assisted
liposuction (the most common form of traditional liposuction). If qualified for
the study, patients will receive extraction of excess fat in their flanks (low back) and will be compensated for their
time as they report on their progress in recovery.
The purpose of this research is to
compare the use of two different methods of liposuction, HydraSolve® and suction-assisted
liposuction. All devices used in this study are FDA cleared. This
study is being done to determine if one method of liposuction is better than
the other, or if they are the same.
HydraSolve® employs Tissue Liquefaction Technology as a safe non-cutting energy source which transitions fat tissue from a
solid to a liquid; without affecting blood vessels, nerves and connective
tissues so fat tissue can be
aspirated from the body through a tiny incision.
Suction assisted liposuction is
different from HydraSolve® because
the mechanism of action which, allows removal of fat tissue, is the cutting of
fat tissue (and non-targeted tissues) into small pieces to allow the fat to be
removed. Both methods of liposuction used in this study, HydraSolve® and suction-assisted, are FDA cleared.
Patients who agree to take part in this study, will need to be seen a total of four (4) visits with each visit lasting
approximately 30 to 45
minutes.
Study subjects may experience one or
more of the known liposuction risks indicated below from being in this study.
These risks are: infection, bleeding, seroma formation, contour irregularity,
numbness or tingling, prolonged swelling, skin necrosis, fluid imbalance,
unintended perforation of an internal organ, and embolism which in some
instances can be fatal.

HydraSolve® is a body contouring device based on
the same patented Tissue Liquefaction Technology™ that was launched in 2003 by

International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, Fuzhou, China
The Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society of Plastic Surgeons was held on November 20-23, 2015 in Fuzhou, China in conjunction with the Symposium for the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS). Over 1,000 plastic surgeons were in attendance, including Dr. Kung.
As a member of the Education Council of ISAPS, Dr. Kung is tasked with keeping abreast of new developments in plastic surgery techniques and relaying this knowledge to his peers around the globe.
"There is at the same time a thirst for and an appreciation of state-of-the-art plastic surgery that is unprecedented in China," says Dr. Kung. "The quality of plastic surgery techniques is on the rise. I am happy to be part of it."
Over the course of the three-day meeting, he gave lectures on Composite Facial Rejuvenation, No Vertical Scar Reduction Mammaplasty and Mastopexy (Breast Reduction and Breast Lift), Abdominal Re-contouring, and Augmentation Gluteoplasty.

Asian Plastic Surgery Textbook Unveiling
Dr. Kung recently attended the MEVOS International Congress of Aesthetic Surgery and Medicine in Dalian, China from July 24-26, 2015. There, he unveiled a new medical textbook and received two Distinguished Faculty awards.
The three-day event marked the unveiling of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Asians: Principles and Techniques, a two-volume definitive medical textbook of which Dr. Kung is a contributing author. The chapters on Soft Tissue Fillers for Facial Rejuvenation, Neck Rejuvenation, Mastopexy, and Gluteal Augmentation in Asians were all written by Dr. Kung.
Over 40 distinguished faculty, including Dr. Kung, were invited to the event. Having treated patients from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities for over 20 years, Dr. Kung was eager to share his expertise on cosmetic procedures for Asians in particular. "With the boom in aesthetic surgery in China," notes Dr. Kung, "there has been a push for proper training of the professionals in that area." Dr. Kung was called upon to give a lecture on Breast Lift and Enhancement and another on Augmentation Gluteoplasty.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Kung was honored with two Distinguished Faculty awards.
