Medical Adventures in Ecuador

The Ecuadent Foundation provides medical and dental services free of charge to impoverished regions of Ecuador.  As Ecuadent's medical director, Dr. Kung oversaw two surgeons and five nurse anesthetists during his latest sojourn from February 18 to 27.

"We saw 98 patients and operated on about 40," he said. "A quarter of our patients had craniofacial cleft lip and cleft palate deformities.  We also treated multiple congenital hand and foot deformities, including fused digits, and performed burn contracture releases."

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Kung followed up on patients on whom he had operated in years past.

"There were excellent outcomes from patients we first treated over 10 years ago," he said.

One nurse described the trip as "a very rewarding experience."  She noted that it reinvigorated her vision of healthcare.

Towards the end of the trip, Dr. Kung was asked to return later this year for an educational seminar on aesthetic medicine for physicians and surgeons in Ecuador.  Stay tuned for more information!

Free Liposuction for Qualified Patients

Dr. David S. Kung Recruits Patients for Clinical Study of HydraSolve® vs. Traditional Liposuction in Flanks Treatment

January, 2016. Tustin, CA. – Andrew Technologies LLC announces that Dr. David S. Kung  of Kung Plastic Surgery, P.A. is now recruiting patients for a multicenter, controlled clinical trial of HydraSolve® vs. suction assisted liposuction (the most common form of traditional liposuction). If qualified for the study, patients will receive extraction of excess fat in their flanks (low back) and will be compensated for their time as they report on their progress in recovery.

The purpose of this research is to compare the use of two different methods of liposuction, HydraSolve® and suction-assisted liposuction.  All devices used in this study are FDA cleared.  This study is being done to determine if one method of liposuction is better than the other, or if they are the same.

HydraSolve® employs Tissue Liquefaction Technology as a safe non-cutting energy source which transitions fat tissue from a solid to a liquid; without affecting blood vessels, nerves and connective tissues so fat tissue can be aspirated from the body through a tiny incision.

Suction assisted liposuction is different from HydraSolve® because the mechanism of action which, allows removal of fat tissue, is the cutting of fat tissue (and non-targeted tissues) into small pieces to allow the fat to be removed. Both methods of liposuction used in this study, HydraSolve® and suction-assisted, are FDA cleared. Patients who agree to take part in this study, will need to be seen a total of four (4) visits with each visit lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

Study subjects may experience one or more of the known liposuction risks indicated below from being in this study. These risks are: infection, bleeding, seroma formation, contour irregularity, numbness or tingling, prolonged swelling, skin necrosis, fluid imbalance, unintended perforation of an internal organ, and embolism which in some instances can be fatal.

Interested patients should call (301) 986-8878 to schedule a 1-hour consultation with Dr. Kung to verify eligibility.

About HydraSolve®
HydraSolve® is a body contouring device based on the same patented Tissue Liquefaction Technology™ that was launched in 2003 by Alcon as the AquaLase® Liquefaction Device for precision cataract surgery. Hydrasolve® combines natural saline solution with low levels of temperature and pressure, to liquefy only targeted fat tissue. Because fat tissue is liquefied, the cutting of fat by forceful thrusts of the cannula is no longer required. The specially designed HydraSolve® cannula is manufactured with aperture edges that have a rounded radius of curvature that do not cut tissue.  It is the energized saline stream, inside the cannula, that liquefies targeted fat tissue while not liquefying or cutting blood vessels, nerves or connective tissue. HydraSolve® achieves liquefaction of fat tissue by cell disaggregation, not by emulsification and the lysing of cell membranes. HydraSolve® is the first liposuction device FDA cleared for autologous fat transfer. For more information, please refer to  HydraSolve® is designed to contour the body by removing localized deposits of excess fat and is not intended to treat obesity. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that has risks similar to other minimally invasive cosmetic surgeries.

Liposuction Techniques: How is Hydrasolve® Different than Traditional Liposuction?

Liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery treatment that has helped many patients get rid of stubborn body fat. The treatment has evolved over time and offer patients new ways to get comfortable care that efficiently accomplishes their cosmetic goals.

We are proud to offer our patients the benefits of Hydrasolve lipoplasty -- a modern technique for liposuction treatment. Hydrasolve® differs from standard liposuction in the following ways:

Gentleness –Traditional liposuction removes body fat by suctioning action, as the name of the procedures indicates. This process can prove to be hard on your body, but Hydrasolve® doesn’t require the same vigorous process for removing fat. We use a solution that softens fatty tissue, something called tissue liquefaction, making fat removal easier.

Post-Treatment Discomfort – Because our cosmetic fat removal treatment is assisted by the use of an injected solution, Dr. Kung’s efforts to give patients a leaner body produce less post-treatment discomfort.

Speedier Recovery Time - Hydrasolve causes less damage to surrounding tissue, so the time you spend recovering from liposuction is shortened.

Minimally-Invasive – The tube we use for Hydrasolve liposplasty is narrow and made specially to help in liquefying fat tissue; the incision needed for this treatment is very small. Getting lipoplasty doesn’t involve any large incisions that could produce visible scarring.

Precisely Targeted - The solution used to target fat only affect fat cells, making treatment particularly effective for specific problem areas of fat build-up. Traditional liposuction does not use the aid of targeted liquification for fat removal.

Hydrasolve® lipoplasty helps you sculpt a leaner body by removing persistent fat buildup that hasn’t responded to good eating habits and healthy physical activity. If you have any questions about lipoplasty, call our Chevy Chase cosmetic surgery office at 301-986-8878 to speak with Dr. Kung about Hydrasolve® treatment.

Do I Need Butt Implants or a Natural Butt Lift?

More and more people are becoming concerned with the appearance of their backsides – there are tons of fad workouts and infomercials aimed at helping you get a rounder and firmer butt.  But what do you do when no diet trend or new exercise routine helps you get a lifted backside? Cosmetic plastic surgery helps patients achieve the results they want. There are options available that you may have heard of – such as butt implants and the Brazilian butt lift.

Here’s what you need to know about each back-side-enhancing cosmetic treatment:

Brazilian Butt Lifts are Good for Sculpting and Lifting

What makes a Brazilian butt lift so natural is the use of your body’s own fat to help shape your backside. A plastic surgeon uses liposuction techniques to remove fat from other parts of your body, such as your midsection, and then purifies those cells to be injected into each side of your posterior.  While patients who are looking for both a leaner stomach and a rounder butt are perfect candidates for this treatment, there are instances where a Brazilian butt lift is not the recommended procedure.

Butt Implants are Better Choices for Patients who Don’t Have Fat Deposits

Patients who are generally lean are not ideal candidates for the Brazilian butt lift, as there are no areas of fat buildup to use as donor sites for re-injection.  In this instance, butt implants are typically the recommended course of action. Your cosmetic surgeon will help you pick the right size and shape of the implant to help you get a lifted and rounded appearance.  While Brazilian butt lifts use natural material to help firm your backside, it’s still possible to get a rounder butt without liposuction.
At Kung Plastic Surgery, we are happy to offer patients the benefits of natural butt lift treatment with the Brazilian butt lift. If you are interested in getting a rounder and firmer backside, we can help.

Even if you are not an ideal candidate for a natural butt lift, Dr. Kung will create a treatment plan that helps you achieve your desired results. Contact our office for your consultation or to speak to a member of our team about your cosmetic treatment options.
